Jakarta, October 17 2024 - To support the creation of a safe and healthy digital finance ecosystem GoPay, Financial Technology business unit from PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (BEI:GOTO) is partnering with legendary musician, Rhoma Irama, to combat online gambling through the “Judi Pasti Rugi” campaign.
Ade Mulya, GoTo Chief Public Policy and Government Relations said, "The GoPay partnership with Rhoma Irama is part of GoTo’s ongoing commitment to fight online gambling by using accessible educational content that can reach a wide audience. Rhoma's iconic song 'Judi,' which was a major hit in the 1980s, remains a powerful tool to raise awareness about the negative effects of gambling. The lyrics are as relevant today as they were back then, especially given the rise of online gambling, which has caused significant harm across society."
Alarmingly, data from the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) reveals that as of July 2024, approximately 4 million Indonesians were engaged in online gambling.
Said legendary musician Rhoma Irama, “I am pleased to partner with GoPay to raise public awareness on the dangers of online gambling. When I wrote ‘Judi,’ I carefully crafted each word to ensure the message was clear and memorable. The impact of gambling is real and visible, and today, online gambling is even more dangerous because it's accessible to anyone, at any age, anywhere via mobile phones.
As part of a multi-layered attack against online gambling, GoPay has also launched judipastirugi.com and an educational page on its app. These platforms provide information on the risks of online gambling, allow users to report suspicious activities, and share personal stories about the consequences of gambling. Reports of online gambling activity are verified by GoPay and forwarded to regulators and relevant stakeholders. As a regulated payment service provider under Bank Indonesia, GoPay is committed to preventing suspicious transactions on its platform.
Since the campaign's launch this month, over 500,000 users have participated via judipastirugi.com and the GoPay app, reflecting significant public engagement.
The Indonesian government has taken a tough stance on online gambling, with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (ICT) blocking 4.7 million pieces of related content. However, the issue persists, with 72,000 online gambling links still embedded in government and educational websites. Budi Arie Setiadi, Minister of Communication and Information Technology says, "Combating online gambling requires a collaborative effort across sectors. We commend GoPay for their initiative, as it exemplifies how businesses can support government actions. We hope this campaign will continue to promote a productive and safe digital space for all citizens."
Ade Mulya added, “GoPay's campaign to combat online gambling combines technology and education. This is reflected in the technology embedded within our system, including KYC (Know Your Customer) facial recognition, which helps prevent identity theft and account misuse. Additionally, we leverage artificial intelligence to monitor and detect suspicious transactions.”
The public can report online gambling activities through the following steps:
-
Access the website www.judipastirugi.com or the "Judi Pasti Rugi" page on the GoPay app.
-
Report phone numbers, websites, or social media that support online gambling activities in the “Bantu Laporkan, Yuk!” section.
Concluded Ade Mulya, “As a proudly Indonesian company, GoPay will continue to work hand-in-hand with the government and the public to create a safe and secure digital economy for everyone.”
